What skills actually helped you transition into AI roles from a non-AI background?

I’ve been working as a content writer for the past 5 years, but ever since tools like ChatGPT came in, things have changed a lot. Some clients don’t accept AI-assisted content at all, and others flag even manually written content as AI-generated. It’s getting harder to justify the work and pricing.

So now I’m seriously thinking of transitioning into an AI-related role. Problem is, I don’t know where to start. I’m not strong at coding, but I’m good at prompt engineering, understanding context, and structuring outputs.

For those who moved into AI from a non-tech background, what skills actually helped you break in? What should I focus on first so I don’t waste time jumping between random things?

I learned AI Prompting, which helped me create content more precisely and with greater expertise.

As nowadays all the websites are filled with AI-generated content, my work stands out with a little manual reserach input and an accurate prompt, and it also gets a good ranking on the SERP.

You can maybe start providing AI-assisted content? You can create some sample content pieces where you have properly research content, charts, infographics made using Claude or any other tool and properly presented data. This will be a good option relevant to your prior experience.
