How to get my first 10 clients for a service-based business without ads?

I’ve recently started an AI chatbot development services agency where I help businesses build custom AI chatbots for customer support, lead generation, and automation. It’s been around 4–5 weeks now, but I haven’t been able to get my first client yet.

I’m not very experienced with marketing, and I’m not planning to hire an agency at this stage. I’m open to putting in the effort myself and learning whatever is needed, but I’m not sure where to start.

What are the most practical steps I can take to get my first 10 clients without running ads? Would really appreciate a clear, beginner-friendly approach based on what actually works.

Start simple. You don’t need fancy marketing right now. You need proof, conversations, and consistency.

First, pick a very specific niche. “AI chatbot for everyone” is too broad. Narrow it down like “chatbots for real estate brokers” or “for clinics” or “for Shopify stores.” It becomes much easier to sell when the problem is clear.

Next, build 2–3 real demo projects. Not generic demos. Create actual use cases. For example, a chatbot that captures leads for a real estate website or handles FAQs for a clinic. Record short videos showing how it works. This becomes your portfolio.

Then start direct outreach daily. Go on LinkedIn and search business owners in your niche. Send simple messages like:

“Hey, I noticed you handle customer queries manually. I built a quick chatbot demo for your use case. Can I show you?”

Don’t sell immediately. Just ask for a quick demo call.

Also, offer a free or low-cost pilot for your first few clients. Something like:
“I’ll set this up for you for free, and you only pay if it actually helps.”

This removes risk and helps you close faster.

Another strong channel is freelance platforms like Upwork and Fiverr. Not for long-term, but to get your first 2–3 clients and testimonials quickly.

Most important part: follow-ups. People don’t reply on the first message. Follow up 2–3 times politely. This alone can double your chances.

Do this consistently for 2–3 weeks:

  • 20–30 outreach messages daily
  • 1–2 demo posts per week
  • 5–10 follow-ups daily

Your first 10 clients will come from volume + clarity + proof, not perfection.
