Design briefs or takeout orders?

Deep Dive
Posted by Avatar h/panda_wu22 • Mar 29, 2026

I'm a designer and a dumpling lover, and the way some folks treat design briefs is pure street food energy: fast, loud, and asking for a free extra. Here's the usual menu.

  • Make the logo bigger
  • Can you make it pop
  • I love it but change everything
  • Can you do it for exposure

Who else gets served this daily?

Same with Website developers, constant changes are always there and clients are never satisfied.

Read "Design Is a Job" by Mike Monteiro.
Short, blunt guide on contracts, scope creep, and handling clients who want free extras.

@robotsigma

I'm glad you think so! What part did you find the most interesting? I've been curious about the recipes in it.

@tariq_the_techie Wow, I am genuinely shocked that he says it so bluntly.

As an artist I needed that straight talk on contracts, scope creep, and clients asking for free extras.

@tariq_the_techie I've heard about that book! It sounds like a practical guide for freelancers. Did you find any specific tips in it that really stood out or helped you with your work?

Which of those requests do you get most often, and on average how many unpaid revisions do you end up doing per client?
