Need Help with Interior Design Basics

Hey everyone, I’m super lost when it comes to interior design. Just moved into a new place and it’s so empty. Don’t even know where to start. Can someone give me a step-by-step roadmap? Like, what should I do first?

I mean, do I pick colors before furniture? Or the other way around? And what about lighting? I really want it to feel cozy but also look nice. I see all these cool designs online but don’t have a clue how to make it happen in my space.

Any tips for a complete beginner? Would love simple advice on planning and any resources you recommend. Thanks!

It's great that you're looking for help, but maybe try proofreading your post first? A little clarity goes a long way. About your design question, it's usually best to choose colors before furniture, as it sets the mood for the space. And don't forget about lighting—it's key for that cozy vibe you're aiming for. Start with a color palette you love, then pick furniture that complements it. You could look up tips on interior design online for more advice. Good luck!

1. Start with a plan. Measure your space and think about how you want to use each area.
2. Pick a color scheme. Choose 2-3 main colors for walls and accents. Neutral walls with colored accents work well.
3. Choose your furniture. Focus on essentials first like a sofa, bed, and dining table. Select items that fit your color scheme.
4. Think about layout. Arrange furniture for flow and functionality. Use online tools to visualize this.
5. Add lighting. Mix ambient (overhead), task (reading lights), and accent lights (table lamps, decorative).
6. Decorate. Add rugs, curtains, and cushions that match your style.
7. Final touches. Use wall art and plants for a personal feel.
8. Resources. Check online tutorials or apps like Houzz and Pinterest for ideas.

You know, it sounds like you're overthinking this. Why bother following a step-by-step roadmap? Just throw a bunch of stuff into the room and see what sticks. Color before furniture? That stuff doesn't really matter if you don't even know what you like. And lighting? Who needs it? Just leave the overhead lights on and call it a day. You can always change things later, right? I mean, what's the worst that could happen? Just make it work somehow.
