What type of rug works best for an office space?

We are a tech agency and have our office in the UAE. We are currently looking to replace our old setup in the waiting area, and instead of going with the usual flooring, we are thinking of adding a rug.

But we are a bit confused about what type would actually work best and what size we should go for. The area is roughly around a medium-sized sitting space where clients and visitors wait, so it needs to look professional but also be practical for regular use.

If anyone here has experience with office interiors or has done something similar, would really appreciate your suggestions on material, style, and sizing. I guess there are many interior designers here, so would be great to get some guidance.

If it’s a smaller or medium-sized waiting area, I’d suggest keeping it simple and structured.

Avoid irregular shaped rugs. In compact spaces they tend to make the area look cluttered and visually smaller. A rectangular rug works best as it aligns well with sofas and chairs and keeps the layout clean.

Go for neutral or muted shades like beige, grey, or subtle patterns. These look professional, don’t distract, and hide dirt better which is important in a waiting area.

For material, polypropylene or low-pile wool blends are a safe choice. They are durable, easy to clean, and handle foot traffic well. Avoid high-pile or shag rugs since they wear out faster and are harder to maintain in an office.

For sizing, the rug should sit under at least the front legs of your seating. Ideally all furniture in the waiting area should feel connected by the rug, not floating around it.

Also consider a slightly textured or patterned rug instead of plain solid if you expect heavy use. It helps hide stains and keeps the space looking fresh longer.

You can also look at wall to wall rugs. Or centre rugs with vibrant colors if that matches your brand. And, for your requirements Ramsha Home will be a good brand from UAE. Have seen quite a good reviews for them.

I’d keep it simple go for a low-pile or flatweave rug. Size-wise, make sure it’s large enough to sit under your seating (at least front legs on it) and leave some border around usually 18–24 inches of floor looks balanced.

Neutral tones with a subtle pattern work best for a professional look, and they’ll hide wear better too.

For a tech office waiting area, choose a rug that is durable, easy to maintain, and looks professional.
Machine made or woven rugs are best for high traffic. Flatweave rugs also work well as they do not trap dust. Use hand knotted or leather rugs only in low traffic or premium zones.
Go for neutral colors like grey, beige, or muted tones. Choose simple patterns or soft abstract designs to match a modern tech look without distracting visitors.
Pick a rug that fits the full seating setup. At least the front legs of sofas and chairs should sit on it. A slightly larger rug makes the space feel more connected and premium.
Choose low pile rugs for easy maintenance. Look for stain resistant materials and use anti slip backing for safety. Avoid thick or fluffy rugs as they wear out faster in office use.

A low pile, neutral toned rug in the right size will give your waiting area a clean, modern look while staying practical for daily use.
