Is it safe to run OpenClaw on my main machine, or should I use a dedicated device like a Mac Mini or VPS?

I have just come across OpenClaw and wanted to give it a try on my personal setup. I have heard mixed opinions around running tools like this directly on your main machine, especially in terms of security, system stability, and resource usage.

Is it safe to run it locally on a daily-use device, or is it better to set it up on a separate machine like a Mac Mini or even a VPS? Also, what kind of risks should I be aware of before getting started? Let me know what setup has worked best for you.

It can run on your main machine, but it is not the safest option if you are just getting started or testing things, especially since tools like OpenClaw can have unknown dependencies, high resource usage, or potential security risks.

A better approach is to use a dedicated setup so your primary system stays clean and stable. If you want something simple and cost effective, you can go with a Hostinger VPS, which gives you a separate environment, full control, and the ability to scale without affecting your daily work.

This way, even if something breaks or behaves unexpectedly, your main machine remains unaffected.

Honestly, I would strongly suggest not running it on your main machine. Please don’t try it the way I did. I thought it would be fine for a quick test, but things went sideways and I ended up losing some important files.
