How Does large companies onboard employees globally?

I am trying to understand how big companies handle global hiring and onboarding.

If a company hires people in multiple countries, how do they manage things like contracts, payroll, compliance, and local laws? Do they use one system for everything or different vendors in each country?

Also, how do they handle onboarding experience for remote employees? Is it standardized or localized?

I am especially curious about:

  • Tools or platforms they use
  • How they stay compliant with different labor laws

Would love to hear real examples or experiences from people who have worked in global teams or HR roles.

Large companies typically use two approaches for global hiring. Either they set up their own legal entities in each country, or they use an Employer of Record (EOR) platform like Deel, Remote, or Papaya Global. These platforms handle contracts, payroll, taxes, and ensure compliance with local labor laws.

For systems, most companies centralize HR using tools like Yomly, Workday or BambooHR, while onboarding and documentation are handled through tools like DocuSign and internal platforms. Compliance is largely managed by the EOR partners along with internal legal teams.

The onboarding experience is usually standardized at a global level with the same workflows, training, and policies, but localized where needed for contracts, benefits, holidays, and country-specific regulations.

Large companies usually don’t manage everything manually country by country. They either set up local entities in key markets or use global employment platforms
